The H2O Tech Gras Series flocculants are a new range of anionic and cationic Polyacrylamide flocculants which are Generally Recognized As Safe (CFR 570.30) by experts in accordance with the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (sec. 201s) in their intended use as flocculants and dewatering aids for food processing waste destined for recycling as animal feed.
Benefits of H2O Tech Flocculants
- Safe, efficient dewatering of food processing waste
- Replacement of inorganic coagulants in Dissolved Air Flotation
- Reduced sludge volumes to rendering plants
- Wide range of products to meet varied process needs
Food processing waste treated with anionic and cationic polymers can comprise up to 50% of the animal feed. Maximum dosages indicated above should not be exceeded regardless of actual percentage of treated waste in final animal feed.
Flocculants
Flocculation is the formation of interparticle bridges or linkages that allow particles to aggregate with one another, forming a macrofloc which can be settled or floated. These include:
- Cationic- positive charge
- Acrylamides
- Mannich amines
- Anionic - negative charge
- Polyacrylates
- Co-polymers of Acrylamide & Acrylate
- Non-ionic - Balanced positive and negative charges which result in a neutral molecule.
- Polyacrylamide
Flocculants in general have a molecular weight of over 1,000,000
Flocculants that are generally supplied are either Powders or Emulsions.
Organic Flocculant Advantages
- Less sludge
- No added solids
- Does not affect the pH of the water
- Does not chemically combine with hydroxides to form a precipitate
Cationic Program vs. Coagulant/Anionic Programs
- Cationic charges satisfy negative charge of colloids
- Requires only one chemical inventory
- Requires only one chemical feed system
- Not as effective as coagulant / anionic combination
- Are not capable of meeting discharge specifications at all places (testing required)
Feeding Flocculants
Feed emulsions at .25 % to 2 % solution
Feed dry at .1 % to .5% solution
Use polymer make-up equipment that fully activates polymer 100 %
